Story
Family Conn are making a difference and running for a cause that's close to our hearts by entering the 2015 Pub 2 Pub Charity Fun Run & Festival for our little Georgia Conn and GoGeorgiaGo. The Festival will be on the 23rd August 2015, and will be a 14km run/walk from DeeWhy Beach to Newport Beach, Sydney.
Georgia is now 8 years old, and has Cerebral Palsy (Spastic/Dystonic Quad). CP is a catstrophic brain injury, and it is a life-long condition. In Georgia's case, her injury came from a terrible birth where her oxygen levels plummeted to a near fatal level, and she suffered a Hypoxic Ischemic event, permanenty damaging her brain and affecting her whole body.
Georgia's CP affects all areas of her life, and she requires 100% support and 24/7 care assistance. She is unable to walk or talk because of her CP. She has done, and continues to do a huge amount of rehabilitation to help improve her condition and future. Georgia is also the happiest, engaged, smart and loving little lady. Although non-verbal and in a wheelchair, she is in 2nd Grade and Mona Vale Public school in a mainstream class, and is an inspiration to all who meet her. At this stage there is no cure for CP, but with a huge amount of rehabilitation, huge changes can be made in the type of future these little ones have.
By walking/running and pushing Georgia on the Pub2Pub Challenge on August 23rd, we (and our team) want to raise awareness of Cerebral Palsy, what it means to a child or adult affected by it, their family and community. Life with CP can be hard, it is very, very expensive, but for everyone involved and affected by it, it can make an ordinary life into an extrordinary journey.
GoGeorgiaGo would appreciate any contribution, big or small you could make for our small effort on the 23rd. While it will be a bit tiring for us getting through the 14kms, it is not a patch on just how hard Georgia works every single day. Funds raised will go toward the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, an organsation that gives so much support to Georgia and us as a family, and to many, many more families just like us.
